A British man is facing trial for assaulting a police officer in Bali after he was arrested for not paying for his food and drinks at a Legian bar.
The Denpasar District Court heard during his indictment hearing on Friday that the man was drunk and unruly when he was taken to the Kuta Precinct on Feb. 17.
He shouted and demanded to be released, so he was put in a holding cell.
An officer named Adhi Waluyo went into the cell to talk to him, but the man attacked him with his head, fists, and feet. He knocked out the cop and broke his tooth.
“[Medical exam reports] showed that the 41-year-old male victim sustained wounds and a chipped tooth as a result of blunt force trauma,” Public Prosecutor Putu Deniel Pradipta Intaran said during the trial.
The prosecutor is asking for the Briton to be jailed for up to two years and eight months for assault under the Criminal Code (KUHP).
