A recent announcement from Indonesia’s new anti-narcotics director saying addicts will no longer be shown mercy apparently has some fearing that execution is unavoidable for death row inmate in Kerobokan Prison, Lindsay Sandiford.
“If they now plan to execute addicts, what hope would someone who smuggles drugs have?” a Kerobokan prison visitor asked, as quoted by Daily Mail.
Sandiford, 59, was jailed in 2012 for getting caught carrying GBP1.6 million worth of cocaine from Thailand to Bali.

The British gran has been on the losing side of many appeals and can clearly not expect clemency from Indonesian President Joko Widodo who has been adamantly for executing drug traffickers.
Indonesian anti-narcotics director Budi Waseso has announced he will push for an end to immunity from prosecution for addicts, according to the Daily Mail.
He apparently added that executing drug offenders, in line with Jokowi’s clear stance, is a “necessary measure” to bring down drug crimes.
A date has not been announced for Sandiford’s execution, with high-level execution talk dying down since the Bali Nine pair was executed with a group of prisoners in April 2015, but our eyes will stay on Sandiford to see how things turn out.
