A huge arrest on extortion allegations has been made, suggesting that corruption is occurring amongst the highest ranks of Bali Police.
As Olivia Pope once said in Scandal, “the fish rots from the head.”
Bali Police Narcotics Director Frank Haryanto Parapat has been arrested by Bali Police internal officers (Paminal) under the accusations that he tried to extort at least Rp 100 million from drug case suspects, in addition to funneling millions in departmental budget cuts, VIVA News is reporting.
As much as Rp 50 million worth of evidence was reportedly confiscated from a safe.
There are also allegations that in one drug case involving a Dutch citizen in 2016, Haryanto asked for a Toyota Fortuner to make the case go away.
Haryanto was arrested during an operation on Monday.
Bali Police Propam (Internal Affairs) Commissioner Dewa Putu confirmed Haryanto’s arrest and interrogation.
“Yes, indeed, there was an examination at Paminal headquarters,” Putu told Merdeka on Tuesday.
