Body found in Lombok confirmed as missing man Fernando Campello

While the mother of a missing Brazilian national had been adamant that a body found in Lombok is not her son, reports are saying the body has indeed been confirmed as her son, Fernando Campello.

Luciana Vieira came to Gili Trawangan, an island off the coast of Lombok to search for her 24-year-old son, who has been missing since Friday.

News Corp Australia is reporting that a body found in Lombok waters on Saturday has been confirmed by Indonesian authorities as Campello. Reports speculate that Campello’s night time swim turned fatal.

Vieira apparently posted on Facebook last night acknowledging her son’s death: “The love of my life was called by the lord. It hurts too much but I believe that he is in peace because his passing by here was a wonderful adventure.”

However, reports haven’t yet quoted her as flat out saying that body is her son. She previously said the body couldn’t be her son’s because it was missing tattoos that her son has.

“They made me do it twice so I could sign a form to say I had seen the body.” She added that she appealed to the Brazilian consulate for a DNA test to prove that the body is not her son.

Campello’s death should serve as a warning to tourists not to swim at night or after drinking, Balinese police say, as their investigations continue.
