Big Yuck: E. coli reportedly detected in Karangasem public water supply

Recent lab tests in Karangasem, Bali confirmed the presence of E. Coli bacteria in the regency’s water supply, according to Bali Discovery

The tests checked seven different water sources in the regency and of those seven, six allegedly came back positive for containing the dreaded bacteria. Yuck!

These tests were conducted after reported diarrhea cases spiked up in the regency. Food poisoning is a concern when food and water supplies are contaminated with E. coli.

PDAM has reportedly been ordered by Karangasem officials to rid their water supply of this menace.

Though we can’t get ahead of ourselves too fast and blame E.coli for Karangasem’s poo problems. Reports also say the increased toilet cases could be caused by all the dust flying around while Northeast Bali is waiting for the rainy season.

Either way, the Karangasem Health Department recommends its residents boil water taken from PDAM for 15 minutes before consuming.
