The Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Denpasar apprehended a Belarusian national on Sunday after local residents reportedly grew suspicious of him while he absentmindedly wandered around in an area of the city.

“He was apprehended by the police in West Denpasar. He seems to be in a daze, with his mouth open, so he seemed suspicious, especially amid a pandemic like this,” said I Dewa Gede Anom Sayoga, who heads Satpol PP Denpasar.

Police handed over the foreigner identified as 34-year-old LV to Satpol PP soon after, and he has been detained with the latter since. According to Sayoga, LV created a ruckus in detention yesterday morning because his breakfast came late.

“He appeared to be [angry]. He usually has breakfast at six and we gave him his breakfast at nine. He started getting mad,” Sayoga said.

After the incident, LV was reportedly taken to a mental hospital to be examined further.

Satpol PP say they have been handling similar cases of foreigners recently, with authorities suspecting that they are stressed out as they have run out of money in a foreign land. In the case of LV, the agency said they have contacted the Belarusian Embassy to resolve the matter.
