A Belarusian man wanted by Interpol and has made Bali his safe haven for about one-and-a-half years was arrested at a coffee shop in Tabanan.

Reports say that AB, 31, was arrested on March 23 by the Bali Police after his red notice was issued on Feb. 22.

Police said that AB was involved in a staged auto accident in order to claim US$60,000 of insurance money in his country.

He entered Indonesia in November 2021 and reportedly stayed at a villa in Pecatu.

“He had a car that was insured and then it had an accident but after investigation the car that crashed was not the one that was insured,” Bali Police General Crime Chief Ni Luh Kompiang Srinadi told reporters earlier today.

AB is going to spend the next 20 days at Tabanan Police’s detention facility, awaiting his extradition.

Srinadi said that the authorities are yet to question AB about his activities while on the Island of Gods because he had asked for an attorney and refused to speak without legal representation.
