Beddy time: North Bali teens face curfew

A group of teens was surprised (the bad kind of surprised) when a number of officers from Buleleng police and activists from the Forum for Women and Children (FPPA) broke up their hangout time on Wednesday night.

A seventeen-year-old identified by Tribun Bali as IMAB says he was chilling in Taman Kota, Singaraja when he was asked for his identity card.

The high school student says he was there to get wifi access.

“Wanted to use the wifi for my homework, sometimes I come here if I need to get online while hanging out,” the teen told Tribun.

During a sweep in Taman Kota, officers reportedly detained seven teens who were not carrying their ID cards.

They were reportedly taken to the police station in Buleleng until family members came to pick them up.

Head of the Buleleng Police criminal investigation unit, Ketut Adnyana TJ says sweeping is done as part of a commitment to curfew for teens—as teens who hangout late at night tend to act negatively and threaten their own security, he insinuated.

“It (the curfew) is not supported, there will be a lot of teens running around until late at night,” TJ explained.
