You know how they tell you to remain seated with your seatbelt securely fastened until the plane comes to a complete stop? Well, that’s because abrupt plane movements can happen on the tarmac, as this incident in Bali illustrates.
A Batik Air plane banged its wing into a jet bridge at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on Saturday morning, where, luckily, no casualties were reported in the incident.
According to reports, the plane’s left wing sustained minor damage just above the jet, while the jet bridge also sustained minor damage but is still operational.
“The plane had stopped but it suddenly moved forward at around 9:30am (on Saturday). During this time passengers had yet to disembark and were still waiting for an announcement to leave the plane,” Taufan Yudhistira, communication and legal manager from airport management firm PT Angkasa Pura I, said.
Denpasar Police Chief Jansen Avitus Panjaitan said that the plane rolled forward about four to six meters even after the pilot had confirmed to the ground crew that the plane had stopped.
Batik Air ID-6505 flew in from Jakarta that morning, carrying 119 passengers and four crew members. The plane is now grounded, as airport authorities carry out an investigation into the incident.
