Bank Indonesia: Foreign tourists in Bali spend Rp 1.76 million per day on average

A recent survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) shows how much foreign tourists let cash flow from their pockets whilst on holiday in Bali.

The central bank’s survey found that on average, foreign tourists spend Rp 1.76 million (USD125.93) per day, according to Tribun Bali. Yes, that’s roughly the minimum wage in Bali

And in case you were wondering, this year foreign tourists have been staying in Bali for an average of 7.66 days.

“This spending figure is lower than the expenditure of foreign tourists in the same period in 2014, which was then USD 190.07 per day. While the average length of stay was 8.19 days,” BI Bali head Dewi Setyowati said on Wednesday, as quoted by Tribun.

Setyowati also said the three main types of expenditures that dominate foreign tourists’s spending in Bali in 2015 are accommodation (26.69 percent), food and drink (18.53 percent), and shopping/daily necessities (14.80 percent).

If we look at it by country, the BI survey found that tourists from the U.S. drop the most amount of cash in Bali, on average USD 188.10 dollars, while Malaysians spend around USD170.90. But Singaporeans are apparently more thrifty as their average is just USD90.82. Australian holiday-goers stay the longest in Bali, approximately 9.28 days, while Americans stay 9.06 days.
