Bali’s going to get a new power source, just wait four more years

Given the frequency of mati lampu in Bali, it sure comes as relief that the island will be getting some major steam power. But too bad it won’t be finished for another four years.

Construction will begin early next year on a steam power plant that will service Java and Bali, but operation will have to wait until 2019, reports Detik

“This is to provide electricity for Java-Bali that can be said to be at a critical point right now. the peak load is just 23,000 MW,” said Director of Human Resources and Administration for PT Generation Java Bali, as quoted by Detik.

This project is reportedly part of 35,000 MW worth of power projects launched by the Jokowi administration.

The plant is slated to be in Banten, West Java, on land that has been held by PLN, Indonesia’s national electricity company, for some time.
