The dust hasn’t even settled yet from the crazy shit that went down in Jakarta today as a protest by Bluebird Taxi drivers got scarily out of hand, but that’s apparently not stopping Bali taxi drivers from arranging their own demo.
A protest by Bali taxi drivers against controversial online transportation services (namely Uber and GrabCar) is on track to go down tomorrow morning, Denpasar Police spokesman Sugriwo said on Tuesday afternoon to local media, explaining that police are well aware of what’s in store.
Drivers in Bali have been lobbying for months to try and get the government to ban these sorts of transport-app service providers.
The plan tomorrow is for a mass of taxi drivers will gather in the east parking lot of Niti Mandala Ranon, Sugriwo said.
“Right, tomorrow morning around 7 am until 9 am, there will be a demo for taxi drivers in Renon. The (permit) letter has already been submitted to us. Fort he amount, it will be less than a hundred. Around dozens of people,” an unidentified intel police officer told Tribun Bali.
So thankfully it sounds like Bali’s demo will be much smaller and hopefully more contained.
