While news came out this morning about Bali’s staggering budget allocation for eliminating the island’s rabies problem, this afternoon a new impressive figure was released as the story is developing.
Head of Bali provincial Animal Husbandry I Putu Samantra says an impressive 345,000 dogs will be targeted for immediate vaccination, reports Tribun Bali. This statement comes after a meeting with Bali’s Deputy Governor I Ketut Sudikerta.
“To prevent troubling rabies bite cases, this year will be the sixth round of rabies vaccinations,” Sumantra told Tribun Bali, adding that success hinges on facilities and infrastructure, the availability of the vaccine, as well as the team behind the project.
Seems like a tall order, but we will take rabies prevention and control programs over dog culling any day of the week.
