Balinese woman caught selling lotto tickets to pay for kid’s tuition

A Balinese woman was arrested in Mendoyo, West Bali for allegedly selling lottery tickets.

She says she was doing so to pay for her child’s school, who is just in seventh grade in middle school.

“School fees for books and pocket money are really high for children. I was forced to become a lottery ticket retailer,” Ni Sayu Kade Sri Alit said, as quoted by Merdeka

Call us sympathetic, but at least she gave a good reason for her legal indiscretion.

“In one day, I only get Rp 50,000 commission,” she added.

Gusti Made Sudarma Putra from Jembrana police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday to Merdeka, telling the news agency that officers confiscated a pen, sheet of cardboard containing lottery numbers, and cash amounting to Rp 22,000. Clearly she isn’t exactly a big fish in some gambling operation.

Sudarma also added that police intend to go after Alit’s boss.

At the moment, it’s been in vogue for law enforcement to crack down on gambling, with operation Balak Agung 2015 running at the moment.
