A Balinese woman allegedly killed her own three young children on Wednesday in Sukawati, Gianyar by feeding them insect poison, before a failed attempt to take her own life.
The 33-year-old woman, who works as a teacher, is currently in critical condition at a hospital in Gianyar, reportedly with self-inflicted wounds on her wrist and neck.
The children were aged six, four, and two, Bali Express is reporting.
Allegedly because of marital problems, the woman, initials PSP, took her kids to stay at her younger brother’s house, without her husband, on Tuesday night.
“While the perpetrator was breastfeeding her child, the witness was sleeping,” Bali Express quoted an unidentified source as saying.
Then on Wednesday, around 6:40am, the brother wanted to take something from the room where his sister was staying. He knocked on the door, but no answer.
“Then the witness tried to force open the window of the room and then saw the perpetrator and the victims in a state of rigidity,” the source said.
“The three victims were already dead while the perpetrator was still critical with cuts on her left wrist and the right side of her neck.”
At the scene, Baygon, an insect poison, was found in liquid form in plastic containers.
Sukawati Police Chief Pande Sugiharta confirmed the incident and said detectives are investigating the woman’s motives.
“We are waiting for the mother to come to, to examine her motive,” Sugiharta said.
