A 25-year-old man committed suicide yesterday not long after telling his girlfriend and friends he felt lonely and nobody cared about him, police said.

Denpasar Police spokesman I Ketut Sukadi said Monday that GAO was found dead in the bathroom of a boarding home (locally known as a kost) where he stayed. He was found by his neighbor MG, 27.

Ketut explained that GAO hung out with his girlfriend NKS, 21, at their friend’s place in Seminyak on Sunday evening. While drinking arak (traditional Balinese liquor derived from a local palm tree called tuak) and wine with his girlfriend and three friends, GAO showed his vulnerable side and told them that he believed that nobody cared about him.

But none of them expected that GAO would end his life.

After the get-together, GAO and NKS went home in the early hours of Monday. However, NKS was too intoxicated and slept in their car, while GAO immediately went to their room.

MG saw NKS sleeping in the car and wanted to wake her up and bring her inside but to no avail. When MG decided to go to GAO for help, she found his neighbor’s lifeless body.

GAO’s body was brought to the Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar at around 7am yesterday. No foul play was suspected in his death, Ketut confirmed.
