Bali tourists warned to watch out for illegal travel services

Travel services are abound in Bali, but the provincial government is urging tourists to watch who they hire, as there are a number of unlicensed services under operation.

The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Bali has been ordered to curb non-regulated tourism services going on in Bali, reports VIVA News. Sure sounds like a tall order to us.

In a surprise inspection held in Jembrana, West Bali yesterday, municipal police reportedly found that four of 22 travel agents were working illegally and in violation of Business Travel Service regulations.

Apparently two of the four were illegal but working with a licensed travel agency or local guide, while the other two did not have any licensed travel agency at all.

Municipal police say that many of the illegal (read: unregulated) tours are arranged outside of Bali, most commonly with student tour packages. Which is why police say they are regularly conducting inspections at the Balinese port city of Gilimanuk or in major Bali tourist attractions.
