The old adage that you don’t get to choose your family, is the harsh reality for a baby just born in Bali to parents accused of brutally murdering her grandmother.
Heather Mack, the American teen charged with killing her mother Sheila von Wiese-Mack and stuffing the body into a suitcase in August 2014 at the Bali St. Regis together with her baby’s father, Tommy Schaefer, reportedly gave birth on Tuesday.
Mack’s baby Stella was delivered via C-section at about 6:09 pm yesterday, weighing in at 6 pounds and 10 ounces, Mack’s attorney confirmed to NBC Chicago.
Attorney Anthony Scifo added that both mother and baby were doing fine and should be hospitalized for a few days. Mack has reportedly said she would like to keep the baby with her in prison, which is said to be possible in Indonesia for up to two years.
Mack and Schaefer are being tried separately in Denpasar court, but both are charged with premeditated murder, which carries the maximum penalty of death.
Last week, Schaefer testified that he killed von Wiese-Mack after she objected to his relationship with her daughter. Schaefer claimed that von Wiese-Mack threatened his unborn baby and choked him for up to 30 seconds.
