Bali Suitcase Murder couple could get verdicts Tuesday

The young American couple accused of committing the “Bali Suitcase Murder” in August 2014 may hear their verdicts for the crime as soon as Tuesday.

Though it’s today that the Indonesian court comprised of a three-judge panel is expected to deliver the verdicts and possible sentences for Heather Mack, 19, and boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, 21, we’re not sure if the couple that’s being tried separately will get their verdicts at the same time, reports Reuters

The pair is facing premeditated murder charges which carries the maximum penalty of death in Indonesia. But prosecutors for the pair have recommended just 15 years for Mack and 18 for Schaefer, citing the couple’s apparent remorse and guilt and their newborn baby as reasons for mercy.

The body of Mack’s mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack was found dead, stuffed into a suitcase at the elite Bali St. Regis resort in August 2014. Prosecutors have built a case against Mack, revealing that she had a tumultuous relationship with her mother

Schaefer confessed to von Wiese-Mack’s murder in court, saying it was only in self-defense after the 60-year-old woman choked him and threatened his baby (who Mack was still pregnant with at the time).
