Bali shopkeeper says resident butterfly is local woman reincarnated

A butterfly with bright yellow wings has captured the attention of Ayar Village in Jembrana, West Bali.

A new visitor to Ida Bagus Ketut Suka’s shop, the butterfly is touted by some local residents as a deceased local woman reincarnated, according to Merdeka

The tail of the butterfly apparently resembles a pair of scissors. But what is most unusual is that it always goes back to the same spot instead of roaming around and fining new perches, says an article posted by Merdeka.

“At first I thought it was dried leaves, but after approaching, it turned out to be a butterfly. Because I was opening my warung, I tried to drive it away with a stick, but it would not go,” Suka told Merdeka. And when the butterfly would go somewhere else, it would later return to the same original spot, Suka said on Friday.

Weirdly enough, Suka claims a kid saw the butterfly and screamed hysterically, adding that the kid went into a trance and announced that the butterfly was her mother who had passed away six months ago.

“It’s mother who comes. It’s mother who comes. Do not be disturbed. It’s mother who comes,” said Suka, mimicking the “possessed” kid’s words.

After this happened, Suka says she immediately prepared offerings in the shop and with that, news of the reincarnated “mother” spread through the village like wildfire, resulting in tons of locals going to visit the shop and see the odd butterfly.

Kind of sounds like a genius marketing plan, no?

According to the Merdeka article, the butterfly stayed perched in the same spot all afternoon and Suka plans to put it in a cage. Though Merdeka did not specify when the butterfly first came to Suka’s shop, it seems like this morning was its first appearance.
