The teenager on trial in Bali over the killing of an Indonesian military cadet should get seven and a half years behind bars, prosecutors said in Denpasar District Court on Monday.
Four underage young men are accused of playing a role in the death of Flores cadet Prada Yanuar Setiawan, 20.
But DKDA, 16, a son of a DPRD regional councilman, is the main alleged perpetrator, who is understood to have stabbed Setiawan himself.
Setiawan of Manggarai, Flores was stabbed to death early in the early hours of July 9 on the Jl. Ngurah Rai By Pass in front of Taman Griya. Setiawan and a friend had been driving a motorbike and were ambushed by a group of people. Things quickly escalated and took a turn for the worst, leaving Setiawan dead.
State prosecutor Made Ayu Citra Mayasari read the indictment of DKDA on Monday, before the presiding judge, Agus Waludjo.
According to Merdeka, DKDA is charged with three different offenses under the Criminal Code of Law no. 11 Year 2012, including articles 338, 170, and 351.
“The maximum penalty is 15 years in prison, but because the defendant is still a child, the maximum that can be imposed on is half that, only 7.5 years in prison,” Mayasari said in court.
DKDA’s representation, Gusti Agung Dian Hendrawan, made no objections to his client’s indictment.
