Australian Sara Connor’s role in the killing of a Bali policeman remains murky as her boyfriend, British DJ David Taylor has just reportedly changed his statement.
Connor and Taylor were arrested as suspects after Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa was found dead on Kuta Beach on August 17.
The Australian mother of two has maintained her innocence throughout, even claiming that she was trying to “protect” Sudarsa from attack by her boyfriend.

Now Taylor’s attorney Haposan Sihombing says his client has changed his statement in key parts concerning Connor’s involvement to “I don’t remember” in acknowledgement that Taylor had been panicked and couldn’t remember all events clearly, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
For instance, Taylor previously claimed that Connor had told him she hit Sudarsa on the beach, but now he’s amended his statement to say he may not remember correctly.
“Before the confrontation, he said Sara told him that [she hit Mr Sudarsa] after they got back to the homestay. But now, after the confrontation, he said: ‘Maybe … I forgot’. He was in a panicked state, he was scared, he only remembers now,” Sihombing said, as quoted by the SMH.
Another key point: Taylor had previously claimed that Connor burnt their bloodied clothes from the incident, but he’s changed that claim too.
“But he said just now: ‘Maybe Sara’s match wouldn’t light up. So I took the match and it was me who lit the fire to burn the clothes. Maybe (before) I wasn’t remembering clearly’.”
Despite this statement-changing, Denpasar crime investigation chief Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan says nothing will change about the charges, both Taylor and Connor remain suspects.
“The bite wounds on her are consistent with the victim fighting back and defending himself,” Nainggolan said.
The case has been turned over to prosecutors as of Monday.
