Australian woman Sara Connor has reportedly been questioned yet again by police, after prosecutors handed her file back to investigators last week, dubbing it “incomplete” and not ready for trial.
Connor and British boyfriend David Taylor were declared suspects in the brutal murder of Bali policeman Wayan Sudarsa in August.
Police now have a 14-day deadline to work up their investigation of the pair and return the files back to prosecutors.
But Connor’s role, especially, in the murder has been a big question mark. Connor has consistently maintained her innocence throughout the investigation, insisting that she even tried to help protect the police officer from Taylor’s attack.
Connor was questioned another two hours on Monday.
Questioning focused on her position when Taylor and Sudarsa engaged in a fight on Kuta Beach, as well as whether she saw Taylor punch Sudarsa, her attorney told the press.
Connor should not be charged with murder, manslaughter or assault in company resulting in death, says her lawyer Erwin Siregar.
“According to me, (the evidence) is not strong enough … I don’t see the help from Sara to David to kill that guy. We will see in the court,” he said, as quoted by AAP.
What Siregar thinks Connor should get charged with is helping conceal evidence—she and Taylor tried to destroy evidence in the form of Sudars’a personal belongings and also burnt their clothes after his death.
This kind of charge would only mean a max nine-month penalty for Connor.
