Bali police investigate terrifying rape and robbery case of Swedish woman

Police are deepening their investigation of an alleged rape, robbery, and attempted kidnapping of a Swedish tourist early on Saturday in Seminyak.

Based on the victim’s account, the rape transpired around 3:30 am when a man claiming to be a motorbike taxi driver offered AJ, 25, a ride back to her nearby Seminyak accommodation from a mini market—where she had been with another friend. However, instead of taking her back to Kei Villas, the man took her to a dark unidentified location and suddenly assaulted and raped her, an unnamed investigator from police’s Women and Children’s Protection (PPA) Unit told local media.

From there, the man forced AJ onto the back of his motorbike and was driving her to another unknown location, when she courageously made a move to escape and threw herself from the motorbike on Sunset Road, all while the man, seeing what happened, sped away with AJ’s bag containing her phone and money, the investigator explained, as quoted by Tribun Bali

In a state of shock and panic after her fall, AJ got up and ran to to Hotel Santika on Sunset Road and through tears, told security what happened. Security directly phoned Kuta Police, who then arrived and took her to Denpasar Police’s PPA Unit by 5 am.

Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Sumara has confirmed the incident and their investigation to local media.

AJ was not surprisingly wounded from her landing on the asphalt road, suffering abrasions on her cheek and bruises on her chin.

Unfortunately police are having a hard time making progress with the investigation since the victim has no idea where the alleged assault and rape took place and they also don’t know the man’s identity.

Let’s hope justice can ultimately be served in this disturbing case and that the woman is alright.
