Bali Police intensify monitoring of counterfeit money circulation ahead of Idul Fitri

Bali Police are putting extra efforts into keeping an eye out for counterfeit cash during Ramadan.

Police say there’s a tendency for more counterfeit money to circulate ahead of the Muslim holiday Idul Fitri, marking the end of Ramadan fasting month.

“In some areas approaching Eid, counterfeit money has been found. There’s lots of counterfeit money in circulation,” Bali Police spokesman Heri Wiyanto said on Monday, as quoted by Tribun Bali

Wiyanto cautions owners of small warungs and shops, especially, to be wary of customers using fake money.

This warning comes after a woman was caught in Jembrana, West Bali last week at a local market using counterfeit rupiah to buy phone credit. Police questioning apparently led the woman to confess to being in possession of sheets and sheets of fake rupiah.

Bali Police say they have already joined forces with Bank Indonesia to conduct the focused counterfeit money monitoring over the coming weeks.
