A Bali burglar was tracked down to Jakarta and shot in the leg when he tried to escape, police told reporters.

A West Denpasar Police operations team lead by Insp. Aan Saputra, captured Mohamed Mansyur, 33, in North Jakarta on Thursday.

Mansyur, who had been working as an AC technician, was wanted for burglarizing a house in Denpasar back in November 2016. He made off with a Yamaha Mio motorbike and the bike’s registration, a TV, AC unit, and some other valuables.

“Based on what the suspect has said, he was surveilling the victim’s house for two months and learned where the victim kept a key,” Aan said, as quoted by Tribun Bali.

Police say Mansyur had been assisted by a friend, who at the moment remains on their wanted list.

It was in Surabaya on the way back to Bali where Mansyur tried to escape from police custody and ended up taking a bullet to the leg, according to Aan.

“One the trip back to the West Denpasar Police station, the suspect resisted and fled so we rewarded him with some hot lead in his leg.”

Mansyur is charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code and could end up with a seven year sentence, Aan added.
