Head of Bali Police, Ronny Sompie is asking Indonesian Democratic Party — Struggle (PDIP) supporters to give the party’s congress in Bali some space for security reasons.
Sompie asked PDIP enthusiasts to not invade PDIP’s congress in Bali that will see President Joko Widodo’s party elect its new leaders and kick off on April 9, reports Merdeka.
According to Sompie, if the masses were to flood the event, there would just be too much potential for turmoil and a larger amount of security personnel would be required.
In line with these security precautions the PDIP committee additionally coordinated with central and local levels so each delegation did not bring too many supporters over to Bali, Merdeka reports.
“We are also continuing to identify every possible cause that could disrupt the congress. Until now, it is all relatively positive and there is nothing we feel that can disrupt the event,” Sompie said.
Nevertheless, he said that Bali Police certainly cannot ignore that unexpected things happen all the time.
“We are also assisted by two ranks of Denpasar Police and police from bordering provinces, namely Jembrana and Karangasem,” he said.
In addition, police are also working with the military, NGOs, and pecalang to help keep the PDIP party’s party under control.
