The online motorcycle taxi (ojek online or ojol in Indonesian) who reportedly raped a Brazilian tourist in Jimbaran in the early hours of Aug. 7 was arrested in Pasuruan, East Java, the police have confirmed.

The Bali authorities confirmed the suspect’s identity as Wangkadasih Dever or WD. He was arrested on Tuesday night.

Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas confirmed WD’s arrest and that the authorities are bringing him to the Island of Gods to face justice.

“[He’s] still on the way from Pasuruan,” Bambang said as quoted by Detik

Separately, Bali Police spokesman Jansen Avitus Panjaitan elaborated on the arrest, citing that the police initially tracked down WD’s residence in Kerobokan but the suspect had already left the premise.

The authorities later learned that WD apparently booked a travel car to Pasuruan, East Java, to evade the police.

“He wanted to go to his uncle’s house in Pasuruan,” Jansen confirmed.

The Bali Police later worked together with the East Java Police to locate WD and he was later arrested on Tuesday at around 9.30pm.

The police are still investigating the incident and plan to collect further evidence in addition to questioning WD.

As previously reported, the rape incident took place in the early hours of Monday on an empty plot of land on Nyang-nyang Street, in Jimbaran, South Kuta. The incident occurred between 4pm and 5pm.

WD, originally from Jember, East Java, received a motorcycle taxi order via an app from GWL, 26, a Brazilian tourist who was staying in Jimbaran. Throughout the ride, WD reportedly kept chatting with GWL to distract her from paying attention to the road.
