No means no, and yet some people turn into monsters upon being rejected, with one man in Bali alleged to have beaten his girlfriend to a pulp after she refused to have sex with him.

The West Denpasar sub-precinct today said that the victim suffered serious injuries following the assault, which occurred last Saturday. This includes bruises on both eyes, gashes om her head, a bump on the back of her head and bruises on her back.

Police said the suspect, identified by his initial H, became violent after the victim, identified as M, refused to have sex on Saturday afternoon.

“The suspect then assaulted her by hitting, stepping on her, and hitting her head on the wall that caused her to lose consciousness, and then he ran away,” West Denpasar sub-precinct chief said in a statement.

M was found covered in blood by a friend who happened to visit several hours later. She was taken to a local hospital immediately, with the matter then reported to the police. H was later arrested at the Gilimanuk Port that same day, as he attempted to run away to neighboring Java island.

Under Indonesia’s criminal code, assault is punishable by up to 2 years and 8 months in prison, while assault that leads to heavy injury is punishable by up to 5 years’ imprisonment.
