Police in Denpasar have arrested a man for alleged assault after he reportedly used his brass knuckles to punch another man for staring at his girlfriend.

The incident took place at a minimarket in the early hours of Sept. 4 when the victim, identified by his initials RJB (24), arrived at the location. The alleged perp, identified as AK (33), arrived about 15 minutes later with his girlfriend, reportedly to use an ATM at the location.

Soon after coming out of the ATM, AK noticed RJB and asked him why he was looking in their direction before he began punching him. Not long after, AK took out brass knuckles from his pocket and started hitting the victim with it on his forehead and mouth, before fleeing the scene.

“The suspect said he was offended because the victim was staring at his girlfriend,” Hadimastika Karsito Putro, who heads the criminal investigation unit at South Denpasar sub-precinct, said.

Police found AK hiding in his brother’s house on Monday, and he was immediately taken into custody. He has since been charged with assault under the Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a maximum prison sentence of 2 years and 8 months.
