Bali immigration says it’s well aware of how commonly foreign tourists abuse visa on arrivals (VOA) in Indonesia and it’s just not cool.
The head of Monitoring and Immigration Enforcement at Ngurah Rai Airport told Tribun Bali on Thursday that immigration is not playing games and people found violating a VOA will simply be deported.
“The average violation of VOA is abusing the visa to work,” he told Tribun. But visitors over staying their welcome (staying beyond the visa period) is also a common violation. At least for overstaying the visa, violators can pay a fine of Rp 300,000 per day.
“Even if they violate this by one minute or one hour, they’ll be fined.” But what if they’re caught in a long and slow immigration line? Seems like tourists late to make it through immigration will not be getting any sympathy.
