A housewife was caught trying to shoplift at Hardys supermarket in Tabanan, Bali on Monday evening.

A Hardys employee reported 43-year-old Ida Nuryanti to the police after noticing her ‘suspicious movements.’

“At that time I was on duty in the drinks section, but one of the shoppers seemed suspicious. The ‘thief” looked around nervously several times,” Ni Luh Made Ani Winarti told Tribun Bali on Tuesday.

“After examining her, it turns out some things were hidden in her purse,” Winarti said.

It was found out that Nuryanti had taken various items such as sausages, clothes, and fruit, totaling about Rp 550k—must have been some pretty special sausages.

Kediri Police Chief Comr. Putu Suprama said legal proceedings are underway.

He told media that the woman admitted to stealing for a religious ceremony and necessities in the house, since her husband had gone home to Java.

“Her confession was that she stole for a ritual ceremony and her husband went home to Java and only left her with Rp 100k,” Suprama said.
