The body of a 61-year-old Javanese domestic worker was discovered in the North Denpasar home of her employer when the family returned from a short holiday on Wednesday night.
Candra Wijaya had just returned from a five-day trip to Singapore with his wife and child, leaving the woman, identified only as Rupini, to take care of the house in their absence. According to a report in local-language newspaper Jawa Pos, Wijaya had become suspicious when he returned to find the front gate locked, and calls to his home phone went unanswered.
“The witness tried to bang on the door, but with no answer. Likewise, when he tried to ring the telephone, it was also not answered,” Chief Inspector Aji Yoga Sekar of West Denpasar Police told the paper.
After borrowing a ladder from the neighbor to climb inside — no, the homeowner apparently had no keys — Wijaya was shocked to find his employee of 18 months lying dead in her bedroom. He immediately reported the incident to the area’s village head, who in turn handed the case over to Denpasar Police.
Commenting to Nusa Bali, West Denpasar Police Chief AKP Johannes H. Widya Dharma Nainggolan said the cause of death had yet to be confirmed.
“The employer told us that the victim often took blood pressure medication. So, for the time being we suspect that the victim died due to illness,” he said. “The team did not find any signs of violence on the victim’s body, so I will wait for the results from Sanglah Hospital.”
