Bali hotel expectancy rate expected to spike up 10 to 15 percent during Lebaran

Public holidays Idul Fitri and Galungan are coming up, leading folks in the hospitality industry to speculate that Bali’s already hefty tourist population will shoot up in July.

Hotel occupancy is expected to rise 10 to 15 percent ahead of Muslim holiday Idul Fitri and Balinese holiday Galungan next month, says Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) Bali, as quoted by Tribun Bali

With the current occupancy rate below 60 percent, PHRI says it is targeting to go above that 60 percent this July.

“The condition now is that hotels with star ratings are under 60 percent and non-star rated hotels are at under 40 percent,” Sukawati told Tribun on Thursday.

However, from the period of March to April this year, there’s been a decline in occupancy of around three percent (though Sukawati says it is an increase of about five percent when compared to the same period last year, so that’s something).

“The increase in tourist arrivals was dominated by Asia, especially China, while for Idul Fitri, the increase is from more domestic tourists,” Sukawati said.
