Bali Province declared the island entirely free of malaria cases in 2014, but data from the Provincial Health Office indicates there were some cases being treated in Bali up to July 2015.
Data shows at least six patients received treatment for malaria at several hospitals across Bali through July 2015, reports Tribun Bali.
But the health office says we shouldn’t be worried about a malaria outbreak in Bali.
“We actually already declared the elimination of malaria (in Bali). So, the six recorded cases of malaria by the Bali Provincial Health Office are entirely cases of import. This means that the cases were not contracted in Bali, but the patents were sick and had to be treated in Bali,” Head of Disease Control and Environmental Health, Dr. Wira Sunetr told Tribun Bali on Tuesday.
Sunetr says the cases were contracted in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.
“Although these cases came from outside Bali, we still have an obligation to treat these patients,” explained Sunetr (aka Captain Obvious).
