Police in Bali have been working overtime in recent weeks to make sure ‘happy endings’ are reserved exclusively for fairy tales.
Bali Police have been intensively raiding “plus-plus” spas offering happy ending massages as a part of their Pekat Agung Operation, which kicked off in May and will run until June 12, 2017. The operation—which is named to address ‘sickness of society’—is targeting various nightlife-related crimes like prostitution, illegal alcohol, and drugs.
Results of the operation have been fruitful, with a spa in Legian being the most recent to get caught in action.
Around 15 police personnel raided the River View Spa in the popular tourist area on Wednesday afternoon and apparently walked in on a customer and spa therapist getting it on. In the next room—the “Aqua Marine Room”—a therapist was naked with a foreigner.
“The raid stemmed from public information that the River View Spa is a place for prostitution, operating under the guise of a spa,” Bali Police Task Force II Superintendent I Wayan Suparta told Tribun Bali.
There were 16 therapists apprehended in the River View raid, some of whom were originally from Bali. In addition, the spa manager, office boy, cashier, and owner were arrested, said Suparta.
Some gels, condoms, and cash were also secured from the scene as evidence.
Based on police questioning, a session would be Rp 1 million at the River View, where most of the clientele were apparently foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, West Denpasar Police conducted a raid at another spa near Jl. Kebo Iwa Utara on the same afternoon.
At the Denpasar spa, a 35-year-old massage therapist from Banyuwangi was secured by police and evidence in the form of a used condom was seized.
While prostitution is illegal in Indonesia, discreet services can be tolerated at times—if between consenting adults.
It seems in the scope of this raid, police are hitting establishments with fines and advising them against continuing illicit activities in the future.
“We will be counseling the perpetrators,” West Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit Insp. Aan Saputra said.
