Bali Governor thinks it’s better to kill child sex offenders than to castrate them

As Indonesia mulls over microchipping or even chemically castrating convicted child rapists, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika is taking a strong stance on the matter.

The island’s governor seems to be insisting that it’s just better to execute sex offenders than to castrate them.

“I think castration has not been able to solve the problem, it only causes fear in people,” Tribun Bali quoted Pastika as saying on Tuesday.

“In fact, in my opinion, they (sex offenders) should be put to death, rather than half-heartedly castrated.”

He also said that sexual abusers and murderers are already irreparably morally damaged.

“Why should we keep people like that?”.

But he added that Bali will respect Indonesian law, so looks like we’ll have to see what law-making action Jakarta ends up taking on the matter.

The recent discourse on sexual abuse laws involving children comes after the brutal gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Sumatra this past April.

President Joko Widodo has pledged to push through a decree with tougher laws and microchipping is one of the measures that is understood to be under consideration.
