Remarks made by Bali’s governor Made Mangku Pastika this week on the prostitution situation in Bali have us wondering if he’s totally turned a blind eye or if he just really has no clue what really happens on the island.
“There is prostitution in Bali? I don’t think so,” Pastika said in a Bali regional council (DPRD) building on Tuesday, as quoted by Kompas.
A similar sentiment was expressed by head of DPRD Bali Nyoman Adi Wiryatama, who stated that there are no big brothels existing in Bali.
“In my opinion, (brothels) do not exist in Bali. However, do not close your eyes, the small ones are still there,” Wiryatama said, adding that there aren’t Balinese prostitutes, but sex workers here are from outside of Bali. Of course he said that.
Good thing the people in charge have such a realistic grasp the island’s sex trade.
