Bali’s governor, Made Mangku Pastika, is not impressed with immigration after allegations that officers at Ngurah Rai Airport extorted money from a Taiwanese tourist.
Pastika is apparently furious that the immigration officers entangled in this scandal have tarnished Bali’s reputation as a tourist destination (since we all know he’s seriously all about bringing in the big bucks from tourism). After news of the alleged extortion on Saturday, Pastika met with former Bali Police head, now Immigration Director Ronny F. Sompie to insist on an investigation into the matter.
“Well, I immediately asked about the events at Ngurah Rai Airport. I asked the director of immigration to resolve the issues with the immigration officers at Ngurah Rai Airport,” Pastika said in Denpasar on Tuesday, as quoted by Merdeka.
Pastika hopes the situation will be taken care of quickly, since immigration is after all the first impression travelers get of Bali.
