Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika is demanding that police don’t go easy on the perpetrator responsible for abducting and sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in Denpasar this week.
The girl was taken from near her home in Sesetan, reportedly while playing outside, for around five hours, then dropped off on the edge of a busy street. She later told of being molested during the time she was kidnapped.
“Police must get the perp. The perp must be punished severely under the laws of the land,” Tribun Bali quoted Pastika as saying in Denpasar on Thursday.
The governor says the kidnapping of children for sexual crimes is just the tip of the iceberg, with underlying issues of poverty, welfare, and unemployment, that Bali must work to address in the future.
