Bali Governor: Don’t be selfish and steal from Nusa Penida water supply

Clean water is apparently hard to come by in Nusa Penida, an island off the east coast of Bali and part of the province’s Klungkung regency.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika says he hopes people do not selfishly steal water from the main canal, reports Tribun Bali

Pastika apparently indicated that the distribution of water in Nusa Penida is often interrupted because of those who take water from the canal for their own personal use.

Stealing from the public water supply is like stealing money from the state and needs to be dealt with, Pastika said on Saturday, as quoted by Tribun.

The governor reportedly promised that by the end of 2016, the issue of clean water supply for the residents of Nusa Penida will be resolved—lofty goals. This will be done by building up infrastructure such as water pumps and maximizing the use of nine springs on Nusa Penida, the governor said.

According to Pastika, these nine springs should actually be able to accommodate the needs of local residents who live on Nusa Penida and smaller neighboring islands such as Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.

All in all, Pastika concluded that first and foremost, already existing water sources need to be utilized and that we shouldn’t let selfish people prosper.
