Officers of the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKDSA) have had their hands full this year, trying to catch two elusive crocs roaming in the mangroves in Denpasar’s Rangda River.
BKSDA has set a number of traps up and down the river and has made repeated attempts to lure the crocs into the traps, to no avail, says I Ketut Catur Marbawa, BKDSA’s administration subdivision head.
“We’ve set net traps and are conducting monitoring everyday. But we haven’t caught them yet,” Marbawa told JPNN.
BKDSA already spent millions of rupiah on traps and fishing nets to try and capture the crocs, Marbawa says. But as it is a conservation agency, the center refuses to end it quickly and shoot the crocs.
“We want to catch them alive, if possible,” Marbawa said.
One of the crocs is estimated to measure about 1.2 meters in length, while the other is likely around 1.8 meters, according to Marbawa.
