A 40-year-old Australian who trains water buffalo to race in Bali apparently couldn’t separate work from his personal life when he allegedly tried to “round up” his wife outside their home in Perth.
The “round up” incident reportedly happened back on July 22 and the Scotsman reports that the buffalo trainer by the name of Gavin Sangster just now admitted to his offense on Friday to a Perth Sheriff court.
Sangster was allegedly heard shouting and yelling profanities at Erlinda, his Filipino wife of nine years, in an abusive manner as he attempted to chase her down. This isn’t the first time Sangster’s wrestled with the authorities: he has a previous domestic abuse conviction for attempting to “retrain his wife to be obedient,” reports the Scotsman. He had apparently threatened to tide his wife to the car to garner her obedience.
Sangster reportedly told police: “She’s wasting everyone’s time. When she comes back, I’m going to tie a rope around her neck and drag her through the streets of Perth with my car.” Also adding: “She needs to be trained. When she turns up, I’m going to give her a kicking.”
After being arrested, Sangster allegedly claimed he was referring to a difficult water buffalo he was working with.
His sentence is being deferred to prep reports, Sheriff Fiona Tait allegedly said.
Some of his other offensive comments, as told by fiscal depute Carol Whyte are just as disgusting and derogatory:
“While waiting for his friend to come with keys, he made a number of comments about his wife being a bitch. He said she required further training and had become more Western.
“He said that in Asia the man in the relationship is the one in charge and women must obey.”
