Following in his father’s footsteps in a commitment to terrorism, the eldest son of Bali bombing mastermind Imam Samudra has reportedly died while fighting for ISIS in Syria.
Umar Jundul Haq, aka Uncu, had reportedly taken up Jihad in Syria from Indonesia almost two years ago.
Sources in a report by Deborah Cassrels for the Australian confirmed that the 19-year-old Indonesian was killed on Wednesday.
Uncu’s father, Samurda, was executed in 2008 for his role in the deadly 2002 Bali bombing that killed 202 people.
While Uncu is not the first son of an infamous Indonesian terrorist to be “martyred” in Syria, Cassrels points out in her report that Uncu’s prominence as a son of a Bali bomber earned him the sort of recognition that few other Indonesian extremists share.
