Bali, better beware of this new scam targeting parents

A new local scam targeting Bali parents could lose vulnerable parents millions of rupiah.

Ni Made Yanti told Tribun Bali that she rushed to Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital earlier today when she received from an unknown person over the phone that her son had gotten into an accident.

The caller reportedly told Yanti that her five year-old-son at TK Harapkan Denpasar was bleeding in the head and had to be operated on immediately, demanding that Yanti transfer IDR19 million to pay for medical bills.

But after rushing to Sanglah and checking for her son, Yanti says she realized that she had been had and that her child was not actually in the hospital.

Sanglah security told Tribun that they have had a number of similar cases recently and sent Yanti to check on her kid at his school. The Tribun Bali report did not flat out say whether Yanti last any money, but we’re hoping that her first reaction was to go the hospital immediately before doing anything else.
