An Australian tourist was escorted to a mental hospital in Bangli regency last week, after she reportedly caused quite a scene at an Ubud hotel when she took off her clothes outside the privacy of her room.

“She didn’t cause any damage, but when we arrived at the scene she was naked,” I Made Watha, who heads Gianyar regency’s Public Order Police (Satpol PP), told Detik on Saturday.

Watha explained that the incident took place last Friday. Authorities suspect that the woman, who has been identified as 49-year-old NMS from Australia’s Cairns region, was depressed because she ran out of money.

“[When we saw her] we immediately covered up her body to avoid further disturbances. I have handled the matter with other relevant government bodies, including the Health Agency and the Social Services Agency. She has been escorted to the Bangli Mental Hospital to be treated,” Watha said.

He added that Satpol PP have informed the Australian Embassy about NMS, and said she will be handed over to the embassy after she’s discharged from the hospital.

Authorities in Bali have evidently been kept busy handling misbehaving tourists on the island in the past few months. These types of cases seem to be popping up with increasing regularity, with NMS’ case being one of the most recent.

Earlier this month, a British woman was detained briefly before being handed over to immigration by Satpol PP Badung, after she allegedly threw pebbles at vehicles passing by in Kuta.
