Bali Vice Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati AKA Cok Ace has given his frank assessment of tourists on the island in response to the recent naked German woman scandal.

Earlier this week, a viral clip showing a 28-year-old woman named Darja Tuschinski, fully naked and disrupting a Balinese dance show at a temple in Ubud, triggered outrage in Bali and beyond.

Cok Ace told reporters today that he deeply regrets the incident.

“Especially since it occurred in Ubud, where culture and tradition run deep,” he said.

The vice governor then lamented certain types of tourists that Bali seems to attract.

“It’s not just a Bali issue. There are countries at war, countries in economic turmoil, [and their people] see Bali as having this extraordinary pull,” he said.

“Everything is cheap [in Bali], the people are kind, so [foreigners] come to Bali. Not just the good ones; the stressed ones, too.”

As for Tuschinski, officials said she was admitted to the Bali Provincial Mental Hospital right after the incident.

Police previously stated that she became depressed as she could no longer afford to stay in Bali.
