Bali airport might be getting some solar panels installed soon

Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport apparently has plans to harness some solar power in the future.

There’s talk of solar panels being designed to later outfit the central offices of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I.

“It’s not yet fully implemented, it’s in the process of being discussed, it might be installed on the side of the office first,” General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Ngurah Rai Airport Trikora Harjo noncommittally said on Tuesday, as quoted by Okezone

Harjo said the airport is working with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources about the solar energy plan that is expected to help reduce hefty electricity bills. Hefty as in a reported amount of approximately Rp 154 million per day.

This plan is part of a larger pilot project from the energy ministry that hopes to designate Bali as a center for clean energy, reaching certain targets by 2019.

Along with the airport, reports say the governor’s office also has plans to install solar panels—though this has been said since last June and we still haven’t see any action.
