Bali Airport locks down help from Navy for Idul Fitri security

Ngurah Rai Airport’s getting a little extra help this year keeping things secure during the approaching Idul Fitri holiday that’s set to fall over the first week of July.

“This year we’ll get the help of the Navy. They were not involved last year during Lebaran,” Bali Airport’s General Manager Trikora Harjo said in Kuta on Thursday to Antara Bali

In addition to the Navy, the Army and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) will also take posts to work alongside personnel from the Airport Authority, Police, and Air Force.

The Navy and Basarnas will cover the waters surrounding the airport, while the Air Force, Police, and Airport Authority will patrol the terminals and airport parking area.

Meanwhile, because of the erratic weather as of late, the airport is intensively cooperating with the Body of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) to help monitor weather developments, according to Harjo.

The air traffic during the Lebaran holiday is one of the busiest times for the country as many of Indonesia’s Muslims make their way back to their hometowns for the big holiday, while many foreign tourists choose to go to Hindu Bali while most of the country shuts down.
