A month-old baby in Bali has been placed in intensive care after allegedly getting stabbed by its own mother.
The baby, from Mengwi, Badung was rushed to Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital from a smaller hospital in Badung with multiple stab wounds, according to local reports.
“The baby suffered three stab wounds on its abdomen and is currently undergoing intensive treatment in the Pediatric ICU at Sanglah Hospital,” Sanglah spokesman, Dr. Kadek Nariyantha, said in Denapsar on Thursday.
The baby’s intestines were sliced open, but it’s not clear what it was stabbed with, Nariyantha told Antara Bali.
“We do not know for sure know how the baby was stabbed and what object was used to cut the baby,” the spokesman said.
The baby was first received at Sanglah’s ER early on Friday morning around 3 am and was taken directly to surgery. After surgery, the baby’s condition was stable by 8:30 am, but medical staff are closely still watching it.
It’s alleged that the baby was stabbed by its mother, PD, who then stabbed herself. PD was reportedly taken to a hospital in Badung for treatment.
